The online U Card portal makes it easy to deactivate your U Card or upload a new picture.
Deactivate a lost or stolen card
If your U Card is lost or stolen, you can deactivate your card online. Note that deactivation is permanent — once a U Card is deactivated, it can never be reactivated.
Deactivated U Cards are subject a replacement fee, if applicable.
1. Access the portal
When you open the deactivation portal, you will be prompted to sign in with your University Internet ID and Password via the page at login.umn.edu.
Make sure to confirm your login via Duo if prompted.
2. Visit the deactivation page
The provided link will bring you directly to the deactivation page. You can also navigate to the page by going to "ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT" and then "Lost/Stolen Card."
3. Deactivate your card
Click "DEACTIVATE" to deactivate your U Card. Deactivation is permanent — your U Card will not be able to be used again.
After a brief loading screen, your card will be deactivated. You can confirm this by viewing the text directly under "Lost/Stolen Card."
Change your photo
You can update your U Card photo in the system whenever you like. This changes your picture for things like HR and attendance tracking, but it won’t automatically print a new physical card — allowing you to update your digital profile without paying a replacement fee.
1. Access the portal
When accessing the portal, you will be asked for your University login information at a login.umn.edu URL.
2. View and edit your current photo
You will be shown your current photo. Click "Edit Photo" towards the bottom of the photo.
3. Upload your photo
Grant or deny camera access
The photo upload portal will request access to your webcam. If you plan to take your photo live, this access is required.
If you will be uploading a photo from a file, you can click "Never allow" and deny webcam access.
Upload using your webcam
Click "Allow" to allow the portal to access your webcam. You will be shown a window with the live image from your webcam. At this point, align yourself to the guides and click the capture button.
The portal will automatically do an initial review of your photo to adjust it to requirements. You can click "Submit & Sign Out."
Upload using a file
To use a photo from file, change the toggle below the preview window from "Camera" to "Camera Roll." Click inside the box to be shown a file chooser.
