  • High School Photo ID
  • Mail with Your Name & Address (information must match what is on file in the UMN system)
  • Social Security Card
  • Sign on to MyU 
  • Certified Birth Certificate

of ID to receive your first U Card

Online Students

If you are a full time online student at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities you may request your  U Card be mailed to you. However, this process may take up to 2 weeks as we must go through a verification process. Please email UCard@umn.edu if you are a full time online student and you would like to start the process of receiving your U Card.

CIS Students

CIS teachers may request U Cards be mailed to their classroom by submitting students photos to the U Card Office. To start this process please email UCard@umn.edu and note you are inquiring about receiving U Card for your CIS class.

PSEO Students

PSEO students can receive their U Card at the U Card Office during their Orientation.

PSEO students are eligible to submit their photo for their U Card via Photo Upload. (Underlined words = link to ‘Photo Upload’ page)

If you receive a U Card as a PSEO student and then apply and are accepted to the UMN Twin Cites for your Undergraduate Education, you will use the same U Card. You are only eligible for a free U Card every 5 years.

Transfer Students

Transfer students will receive a U Card at their Orientation. If you have a U Card from  a UMN system campus, you need a UMN Twin Cities U Card as the UMN Twin Cities U Card has different technology on the card.

1st Year Students

1st Year Students will receive their U Card from the U Card Office on day 2 of their Orientation.

1st Year Students are eligible to submit their own photo for their U Card via Photo Upload (underlined words = link to ‘Photo Upload’ page) and then pick up their U Card at Orientation. Otherwise, a photo will be taken at the U Card Office.
